Sedio Innocase

by on Apr.07, 2011, under Wireless

Seidio make various products for cell phones and I have used their Innocase product for my Nexus One for a year. Now that I have changed to an HTC EVO, I have purchased an Innocase and holster from Seidio for my EVO also. This time instead of the black case I went for the Sapphire Blue case which is quite nice and not overstated as some cases are. The case is well crafted, and the fit is what I came to expect from the Seidio products. The holster, while larger for the EVO, is also well designed and not flimsy as I have seen on other products from other companies.

As with my Nexus One, I take my EVO most everywhere I go and the Seidio Innocase and holster provide a very functional solution. I have also looked into the Seidio Ruggedized case and holster (at CES) and am thinking of replacing my wives OtterBox case with the Seidio version. Mind you there is nothing wrong with the OtterBox case, but my wife really likes the Seidio case. Of course, she really likes the Innocase with the variety of colors available, she is dieing for something other than black. We will see…

Moving on or leaving AT&T

by on Apr.05, 2011, under Android, Wireless

Well after much ado, I have left AT&T behind and couldn’t be happier. Not only is my service better (so far no dropped calls or data connections), but I saved money on my monthly service (for me and my family) over what I was paying at AT&T. After much complaining about my AT&T service, my wife’s phone died and I refused to get a new phone with accompanying contract from AT&T and suffer for another two years. My wife and I had talked about moving carriers multiple times, and even took a trip over to the Sprint store so she (and my daughter) could look at the phones in person. While out on a date (with my wife), we stopped by a different Sprint store which was much bigger and had more phones on hand. After a bit more discussion, and call my daughter to look at the phones on-line (so she could pick one), I bit the bullet and made the switch. We also had to call my oldest son so he knew that his service was about to end, he promptly came to the store to sign up on a new account with Sprint also. This also helped reduce my monthly service charges. My wife and I both purchased EVO’s and are quite happy with them.

So now I will stop complaining about AT&T’s service, but since I work in the wireless industry, I may still complain about what they do to their customers (and possibly T-Mobiles).

HTC where are you going?

by on Feb.15, 2011, under Android, Technology, Wireless

HTC has been innovating with phones every year as far back as I can remember them being in business. They incorporated features into their phones that no one else had. My first HTC phone was an HTC Wizard, awesome when I got it and still works like a champ (it’s my backup phone). So this year at CES I think everyone was expecting great things from HTC given what the other manufactures were able to come up with, but HTC all but skipped CES. Now at MWC (Mobile World Conference) many expected HTC to announce some new cutting edge phones. Instead, they were met with some average phones that are not even close to cutting edge, I would be hard to classify them as ‘new’, just different or more of the same from last year.

Every manufacturer goes through this problem at some point, but not so early in their business life. What happened to the innovations at HTC? Did they lose some engineers to other companies like LG or Motorola, both of which have come up with some very innovative new phones? I will be sad if HTC becomes the next victim of the lack of innovation. Sure, they released the EVO Shift early this year, but that was not really innovative given that the EVO was last years new wonder of technology. The Shift is basically a smaller EVO with a slide out keyboard, I would have liked it better if it had been an EVO with a slide out keyboard.

HTC please get it together and get back to designing cool new toys for all of us!
