Gingerbread on Nexus One… It’s mine all mine!!!
by slipshft on Feb.25, 2011, under Android, Technology, Wireless
I manually updated my Nexus One to Gingerbread this morning (yes I am a little slow), and am happy to say that it is a nice change. Of course there were a few roadblocks (some of which still exist, like rooting) that I had to work through, but with the help of the people over at XDA Developers it is complete. My one roadblock that I had to think about for a bit; I had removed some of the stock applications (facebook, twitter, amazonmp3) and the update was looking for those to complete the update. So after I re-installed them, I was updating my Nexus One in no time.
I have to say that I was hesitant about the all of the green that Google put into this version of Android, but it is starting to grow on me. What I am especially happy about is the increase in speed of the OS and applications. It is noticeable, although I have not run any actual benchmarks on the phone. So we can all start looking forward to the next version of Android “Ice cream Sandwich”.
What?! You thought that we would be happy with our newly upgraded OS? Silly people…
Google nexus one

I received my nexus one the other day. My Nokia E71X was dead even though I never dropped it. So now I have moved on to an android based phone and really love it. However like a lot of people, my N1 heats up then goes into a constant reboot cycling until it cools down. Any application that put a bit of strain on the CPU & battery produces this affect, and when the unit is charging the problem is exponential to where the unit becomes completely unusable.I spent quite some time troubleshooting as to what the cause could be, searching the inet for any glimmer of hope. After several hours of trial and factory resets (and a few complete wipes) the N1 was still rebooting.
So after only 7 days of use my N1 became your basic paperweight.
I call to Google’s customer service line and a very helpful person at the other end not only recognized the problem as a hardware issue right away, but also waited for the HTC representative to get on the line for a replacement. I had to get a replacement from HTC since Google is no longer selling the units on their web site. Apparently I was one of the last persons to receive one from the Google site. The Google rep explained that they had no more units to ship or she would have sent me a new unit.
Now the wait begins, waiting for the new refurbished unit to arrive, and stress test it before accepting that the unit is good.
